I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings but...this morning’s low temperature of 31 degrees at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport tied the record for lowest temperature on this date May 12 set more than a century ago, in 1907.

This morning, the temperature reached 31 degrees at 6:12 am.

Our partners at News 4 Buffalo (WIVB-TV) tell us sunshine returns today, though there is still going to be chill for this time of year.  Some clouds mix in with the sun across the Niagara Frontier this afternoon, and a few sprinkles may try to fall around drive time.

Again tonight, clear and calm conditions will result in freezing conditions across much of the area.  You will need to protect tender plants. We return to bright sunshine Wednesday, and it becomes a tad milder with a light wind.

Right now it looks like a 50/50 weekend, dry, some breaks in the clouds, BUT WARMER and another round of rain showers on a breezy Sunday.  There’s also a chance of a thunderstorm.

TUESDAY: Mostly to Partly Sunny, Breezy, High: 44-50  (Perfect for the Salute To WNY Flyover at 11:45 am)

TUESDAY NIGHT: Partly Cloudy this Evening, then Clearing, Frosty Cold, Low: 23 deep valleys, 32  at the lakeshore.

Finally...the freezing nights will go away and Springtime will return to Western New York with seasonable temperatures in the upper 60s and the chance of a springtime thunderstorm.  I think it is safe to say without jinxing it that we can finally rest the snow brushes and shovels until hmmm, at least September (said tongue in cheek).
