Thousands will gather in Buffalo this weekend to pay tribute to fallen soldiers at a very unique memorial called "The Fallen Heroes Memorial Wall."

This is not a scaled-down version of the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial from Washington, DC.  It's a memorial that is unique to the soldiers who are listed on it.  It's called "The Fallen Heroes Memorial Wall" and it's going to be here in Buffalo for the weekend.

This wall is a display of over 7,000 dog tags that have all been colored to represent the flag of the United States.  Just like our flag, the memorial is covered with 50 gold stars.  They represent the gold star families who have had family members that have paid the ultimate price for our freedom.

This memorial is for soldiers who have died in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

It's being brought here by the K.I.A. Memorial Roadmarch, VAU, The Buffalo and Erie County Naval Park, and WNY Renegades.  It'll be open to the public at the Buffalo Naval Park on Saturday (7/17) and Sunday (7/18) from 10am - 6pm.

I'll never forget when we were kids and my family stopped to visit the Vietnam Memorial Wall.  My dad served in Vietnam.  Going there as a kid, I didn't understand what that meant.  I couldn't understand what my dad was so upset about.  But believe me, I felt it when we left.

I believe it was a moment of closure for my dad as we walked that wall looking for names that he recognized.  At the same time, it was incredibly somber to watch him as he gave in to tears.

I would imagine there will be more of that this weekend as people stop by to visit and honor the men and women of a younger generation who have gone on to continue in the footsteps of those before them in fighting for our country.
