Toutant made the announcement on their Facebook page Friday afternoon.

The post says that New Years Day would be their last day of service and will “hibernate” in an effort to save money, as the coronavirus pandemic continues to devastate bars and restaurants, due to mandatory closures and limits on dining.

According to their post, the restaurant says:

“Even with the “aid” of borrowed Economic Injury Disaster Loans, PPP programs, Local and State Grants, crushing our personal savings, our businesses have not been able to create enough of a revenue stream to stay in the black.”

They made the decision in order to have “any real chance to have a business operate at even close to break-even” once they are clear to open for indoor dining again.

Toutant joins a growing list of restaurants that have closed because of the pandemic, however, they are not planning a permanent closure.

Step Out Buffalo reports other downtown restaurants including William K's, Washington Square Restaurant, Schupper House, Root & Bloom, and Belsito have permanently closed.
