The deadline to re-certify your current New York State permit is just over a week away. The New York State Police mentioned that they won't go after those permit holders who are delayed in getting it done. However, it is something that is required to do every 5 years.

Erie County will now offer a new location for those looking to obtain a permit. The satellite office in Elma will open in early February and according to Erie County Clerk Mickey Kearns, the office will have Friday hours only and will process specific transactions including adding or removing a gun, change of address and help with general pistol permit questions.

The satellite office will be located in the Elma Town Hall.

Just this week it was announced that Monroe County will have extended hours for those looking to re-certify. The deadline for anyone with a pistol permit issued before January 15th 2013 is January 31st.

According to Guns.com:

State Police say 372,388 letters were sent out to pistol permit holders last year in a mass mailing advising them of the deadline and that they could re-certify either online or by mail. Many county clerks, long responsible for keeping the records, say they have seen as few as one in four with outstanding permits re-certify.
