Watermelon season is here and the worst thing that can happen is that when you get ready to buy a watermelon you get a bad one.

Imagine you are all ready to bite into a nice juicy watermelon slice and it turns out that it isn't juicy or sweet.

Here are some tricks to picking a nice, sweet, juicy, watermelon.

MAKE SURE TO LOOK FOR A FEMALE WATERMELON

Pick a female watermelon. Female watermelons are more uniform in shape. They are shorter and rounder and are sweeter than male ones. Male watermelons are elongated and have less sweetness to them.

MAKE SURE YOU LOOK AND FEEL THE STEM

Look for a dry stem. If the stem on your watermelon is dry that means most of the water and juices are inside the melon. A tough, green stem means that some of that sweet juice has been extracted.

Step #2 Look for at the stem.

CHECK OUT THE SPOTS AND COLORS OF THE WATERMELON

Looks at the spot where the watermelon was laying on the ground. A yellow/orange spot means that the watermelon is sweet. A white spot means the watermelon will have a bland taste.

DOUBLE-CHECK THE WEBBING ON THE WATERMELON

Look at the webbing on the watermelon. Webbing that is long and spread out means a juicy tasty watermelon. Short compact webbing means more of a bland flavor to the watermelon.
