The Erie County Sheriffs Office warns that you could receive a phone call from scammers claiming to be deputies that have reportedly been calling county residents.

Complaints are coming in from across the county. Deputies say scammers are falsely representing themselves as members of the Erie County Sheriff’s Office.

These scammers are leaving messages on residents phones advising residents to call them back or they will be arrested. Area codes 716, 410 and 718 have been used.

The Sheriffs Office asks that if you receive a phone from a scammer posing as a deputy to hang-up and don't respond. You're also reminded never to give our personal information over the phone including social security or bank account info.

You can call 716-858-2903 to verify whether a Sheriff's Office representative actually needs to meet with you.
