Some very powerful storms made their way across Western New York yesterday afternoon and not only brought thunder and lighting but plenty of rain as well.

The National Weather Service in Buffalo released the rainfall amounts for the area and while most places got anywhere between .5 inch to 2 inches of rain, Cattaraugus County got 6.25 inches of rain. That is over half of foot of rain in just a couple of hours!


The wettest day so far in the month of July in Cattaraugus was recorded on July 11th, when the Cattaraugus County - Olean airport received 3.2 inches of rain.

Cattaraugus County along with Chautauqua County and Erie County was also under a Tornado Warning as well.

Possible tornado damage was reported in Portland, New York.

The National Weather Service will now investigate the damage and review the reports to see if a tornado did touch down in the area.
