I first heard about Nextdoor, an app that calls itself "a private social network for neighborhoods," on NPR. I thought the app seemed to be a great idea, especially when it seems real face-to-face interactions with neighbors are on the decline.

I received an invitation to join in the mail. The app took a few minutes to download and get registered. With any social network, the number of users will make or break your experience. If there aren't many neighbors on the network yet, its usefulness is limited.

If you want to try it, and get your neighborhood signed up, you can do it at Nextdoor's website.
