Earlier today, New York's Governor Kathy Hochul, announced that several landmarks across the Empire State will be lit blue and yellow tonight, March 24th.  The date is significant, as it marks one month since the beginning of the Russian invasion.  The lighting of the landmarks in the colors of the Ukrainian Flag is a sign of New York's solidarity with the Ukrainian people.

Governor Hochul said via a press release:

As the proud home of the largest Ukrainian population in the United States, New York will continue to stand by the Ukrainian people in their fight against tyranny and oppression,"  "Our prayers are with the innocent victims of the unconscionable violence that continues to be perpetrated on a free and sovereign nation.

Also earlier today, The Governor announced the launching of a new website that contains resources that are being offered by New York State and its partners that are aimed at helping Ukrainian people and their friends and allies here in New York.

This announcement comes on the heels of the Governor warning New York residents about consumer scams, and cyber-attacks which are now at a heightened level since Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Some of the landmarks to be lit in solidarity with the people of Ukraine include:

  • One World Trade Center
  • Empire State Plaza
  • State Fairgrounds in Syracuse - Main Gate and Expo Center
  • Niagara Falls
  • Fairport Lift Bridge over the Erie Canal
