The good weather is here and it is time to get things done around farms in New York State. From plowing fields to getting ready to cut, bail or chop hay, farms are busy!

Diesel prices are on the rise, labor costs are increasing and family farms across New York are taking a major hit. The wet spring has also made it rough on farms across New York State. How can we help? Support LOCAL farms! Buy more dairy products like milk to support the hard working dairy farmers and shop the local farmers' markets in your neighborhood.

The costs to run a farms these days has made it tough for smaller farms to survive. Just imagine the cost to run tractors with diesel prices way over the $5 mark! Various farm organizations are stepping up to help where they can. Especially for the dairy farms around the state.

When it comes to labor costs, New York State has announced a resolution that will lower the overtime threshold by 20 hours in the next ten years.

RESOLUTION 1.
The overtime threshold for farm laborers, which is currently set at sixty hours, be reduced to forty hours.

The rising prices and fears of a recession only remind us about the importance and value of local farms. When they succeed, we all succeed. No Farms, No Food!
