New York State residents who are being forced to upgrade their driver's license for air travel have an extra year to "make the switch."

The extension came as result of outraged residents who are required to get an enhanced license to travel by air starting in 2016, but say that they weren't given enough notice.

The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles announced on Wednesday that they will be extending their deadline to upgrade your license to the end of 2016.

The DMV is encouraging drivers to upgrade to an enhanced license within the next year to comply with federal laws.
