What makes a good neighbor? Is it one that comes over to hang out with you on the porch in the summer? One that snow blows or plows your driveway for you after a big winter storm? Someone who gets your mail for you or feeds your cat when you’re out of town?

We all have our own definition of what makes a good neighbor. And since the pandemic began, some New York state residents have relied on their neighbors more than ever to help them out.

September 28th has been deemed National Good Neighbor Day, and in its honor, Neighbor.com has released its list of 2022’s Most Neighborly Cities In America.

A self-storage company, Neighbor.com states that it used a variety of available public data related to the well-being of a city’s residents, charitable giving, happiness, generosity, and a variety of “other factors.”

According to their rankings, a city in New York state checked all of the boxes and was therefore deemed the “most neighborly” for 2022.

Rochester, New York Named The Most Neighborly City In America

According to Neighbor.com, Rochester is the most neighborly city in the country in 2022, up a spot from its #2 ranking in 2021. In their survey, Rochester ranked high in neighborly acts (third) volunteering (fourth), as well as high marks in charitable giving and happiness.

Other cities in New York state that made the list were Poughkeepsie, New York at #8, and Albany, New York at #23.

What about Buffalo, New York?

Surprisingly missing from the list, however, is Buffalo, New York - which prides itself on being a neighborly city and even dubs itself “The City Of Good Neighbors.”

Interestingly enough, in Neighbor.com’s explanation of their reasoning for making Rochester number one, they list the city as home to Art Park, the only state park in the U.S. that’s dedicated to visual and performing arts.”

Wait…what?

ARTPARK, as we all know, is located in Lewiston, New York - which is part of the BUFFALO metro area. Not Rochester.

The city of Buffalo has a right to feel robbed by this list, but we digress.
