New York Extends Time Period For Expired Driver’s Licenses

If you've been dragging your feet and waiting to renew your driver's license,  you just got a little bit of an extension.

According to WKBW, Governor Andrew Cuomo has issued an Executive Order which will extend the period of time to allow driver’s licenses to remain valid until December 3, 2020.

You may remember that a few months ago when everything began to shut down due to COVID-19, New York State allowed people a grace period where their expired license or registration would not give them a penalty or fine.

That grace period was supposed to end on Tuesday but it was extended today.  If your license expired after March 1, 2020 it will still be considered valid through December 3rd.

They do encourage you to get it taken care of as soon as possible though.

The good news is that many of the services you need have been reopened at the DMV.  And even better, a lot of them can be done online.

We were able to get my daughter in to get her driver's permit last month.  We had to make an appointment, but we were able to get it done.  Now we have a new driver on the road.  So look out!

I had to renew my license a couple of months ago myself.  Luckily, the process was very easy online and I had my new license in just a couple of days. To make it even better, I couldn't get a new picture taken.  So the picture on my license still makes me look like I'm 25.
