President-Elect Joe Biden and wife Jill aren’t the only ones moving into the White House Today…according to a story aired on WGRZ-TV.

Two adorable German Shepherds are slated to move into their new home in Washington, D.C. today.

Major and Champ will be the first dogs in the White House since the Obamas left in 2016.

Champ was a gift from Joe to Jill Biden after the 2008 election, and Major was adopted by the Bidens after Joe's daughter Ashley sent him a picture of the adorable pooch that was being kept for adoption at the Delaware Humane Association,.

Major will be the first rescue dog to live in the White House.

Historically, Americans have loved seeing dogs in the White House.

“Pets have always played an important role in the White House throughout the decades,” said Jennifer Pickens, an author who studies White House traditions. “It not only provides companionship to the president and their family, but I believe it also humanizes and softens their political image.”

Having a dog or cat will give pet-loving Americans a connection with the president, says Tom Whalen, a presidential historian at Boston University.

“When a president, the leader of the country, the leader of the free world really, is seen with a dog or a cat, you know, basically there is a bond that they have with their public, whether they’re Republican or Democrat," Whalen said.
