New Stores Coming to Quaker Crossing Plaza in Orchard Park: Will Traffic Be Worse?
There are certain places in Western New York where retail reigns supreme, especially on weekends and holidays. Boulevard Consumer Square in Amherst is one of those, and another major plaza for retail shopping is Quaker Crossing in Orchard Park.
The huge plaza sits off Milestrip Road and Amelia Drive, and it features numerous national chain stores, such as Target, Kohl's, Dick's Sporting Goods, and Home Goods. It also has restaurants such as Longhorn Steakhouse, Red Robin, and Cold Stone Creamery, along with Regal Cinemas.
It's hard to believe that even more stores and buildings could be opening up there, but that's exactly what will happen.
According to The Buffalo News, Quaker Crossing Plaza owner Gerald Buchheit is proposing a 31,000-square-foot building at the edge of the Regal theater parking lot.
Although the new stores have not been announced yet, they will be national chain retails stores and not restaurants or local stores. Buchheit says that once the leases get signed he will reveal which stores will be coming.
Regal Cinemas has reconfigured their theater at Quaker Crossing, which has reduced seating capacity, which also reduced the need for as much parking. That freed up the new proposed retail building.
It still needs final approval but the hope is that construction can begin in the fall with completion by the spring of 2022.
My fiancee has worked in that plaza for the last two years and my parents live not too far away in Hamburg; so I've been to Quaker Crossing many times.
It's a great plaza for seemingly everything you would want (retail, food, entertainment), but the traffic can be an absolute nightmare, especially on weekends and most definitely between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
There's only one main entrance in and out of the plaza (much like Boulevard Consumer Square), although there is a back-area entrance/exit that leads to Lake Avenue.
This will likely cause heavier traffic, especially if it's high-profile retailers. I'm eager to see which stores will be added to an already hectic and popular plaza.
