There is a pretty large project taking place along the I-190 that travels from Grand Island through Buffalo to the I-90 that may affect your drive at night or early morning.

If you drive this stretch of roads you will notice that there are currently no light posts! That is because crews are changing the lights to add upgraded poles/posts.

According to reports, the old light posts are considered a hazard because they have a tendency to topple over!

In a Channel 4 report, it was noted that:

Jonathan Dougherty, spokesman for the Thruway Authority, said crews were immediately sent out to inspect all the poles on the 190 after the two fell about a week prior to this past weekend’s windstorm. That’s when crews discovered deficiencies with some of the poles, so the decision was made to dismount all 300 poles “out of an abundance of caution.”

I noticed the missing poles on my drive home last week and then noticed how dark it was on a drive downtown in the evening. You will probably need to use your brights/high beams in some spots of the I-190 to make sire you can see properly. Keep in mind, there is always a good deal of traffic moving both north and southbound and use the lights with proper discretion.

The new lights that have been going up on roads around Western New York sure are brighter than what you may have been used to if you have been driving for awhile. They are sleek and put out plenty of light to cover the roads. Specifically, some of the new lights that are around Orchard Park.
