With 2016 almost over, thankfully, it’s time to turn our collective attention to everything we’re excited for in the new year. Our staff even drew up a list of all the movies we’re most anticipating, and among those is the Ghost in the Shell adaptation starring Scarlett Johansson. To say that the movie remains controversial would be an understatement, but we can’t deny that it looks stunning. There’s even a new image from the movie to prove it.

Empire debuted this exclusive image of Scarlett Johansson’s Major utilizing her dual-wielding skills.

Not much in the image clues us in to exactly what’s going on here, or where she is or who she’s about to fight, but she definitely looks like an android you’d want to stay away from if you’re a criminal.

“I’ve been a person without a body, now I’m a mind in a synthetic body,” Johansson told Empire. “Eventually I’ll go back to playing a body and brain together. This is a ride that’s not just explosive and exciting, but also curious and reflective.” The trailer certainly looks explosive, but it doesn’t seem to be advertising what the original Ghost in the Shell is really about — which is, among other things, the nature of consciousness and humanity in a technologically advanced world. Like Westworld, but weirder. Hopefully the movie itself is truer to its origins than its trailer.

Based on the internationally-acclaimed sci-fi property, Ghost in the Shell follows the Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.

Ghost in the Shell hits theaters March 31, 2017.
