They say that laughter is the best medicine but in this case, it is music. Thomas Witakowski who is the conductor of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra suffered a stroke last year.

The doctors had to perform an emergency neurological procedure to stop the bleeding in his brain. Unfortunately, they had to place him in a medically induced coma for a few days. When they took him out of it, it was up to him to wake up.

Doctors and nurses try to incorporate certain aspects of a persons life to get them to wake up. In this case, they played music for him everyday.

When Witakowski woke up from his coma a month later, he woke up to music. He is a firm believer that music lead him out of his darkest place.

There have been numerous studies on the healing benefits of music. This is certainly another aspect of utilizing music to heal.
