We all have to drive places. To work, to get groceries, run errands, road trips. Most of us take at least two or three car rides per day, especially on busy weekdays.

Here in Western New York, we have it pretty good in terms of traffic. We deal with standard rush hour congestion around 8 am and 4-5 pm, but in general, we don't have the amount of traffic other nearby cities do.

There are some dangerous roads that most people in Western New York are aware of. Niagara Falls Blvd., Transit Road and Union Road are all famous roads here that get congested and can be dangerous.

But what is the most dangerous road in the State of New York?

There are plenty of traffic-heavy roadways in the New York City region, as well as Long Island and while those places have plenty of dangerous roads (along with Buffalo and Rochester), it's a parkway that connects the New York City region to the Albany region.

According to both The Ahearne Law Firm (2020) and Only in Your State (2021), the current most dangerous roadway in the State of New York is the Taconic State Parkway.

Taconic State Parkway runs from Kensico Dam to Chatham. It runs near and through the Hudson River and Hudson Valley region, clocking in at just over 100 miles.

This parkway is so dangerous because of the high speeds and many turns that have made it famous for downstate residents who frequent the roadway.

Only in Your State reports that from a three-year period that ended in the summer of 2014, 2,080 vehicle accidents occurred on the Taconic State Parkway.

I have some people I know who have lived nearby and have driven down the TSP. They agree this roadway is not the safest. Many speeding drivers, traffic and turns make it notorious for New York State drivers.
