Moms Matter – Is Aquatic Fitness Better?
Hopefully you're still going strong with your New Year's resolutions, but if you need a little extra push, we are here to help!
It can be hard to find free time to work out if you have little ones you need to chase and chauffeur from place-to-place. But there are options out there that can help you get some time to yourself, like the Southtowns Family Branch YMCA in Amherst.
Did you know aquatic exercise can be even better for you than regular exercise? Per HealthFitnessRevolution.com, there are two big factors that make it the better option:
- Wear and tear on joints
Since it's much harder to move your body through water than air, pools offer much more resistance to basic motions, which can help you tone up! Think about it...your whole body has to work harder, even if you're doing something as simple as moving your arms.
On top of that, it hurts a heck of a lot less! Every time your foot comes down on pavement or a treadmill, the impact travels through your ankles, knees and hips. Exercising in the water gets rid of the impact! You're still working your muscles, but taking out all of the bumping and grinding on your joints, so you're less likely to do damage or be sore. What's not to love?
