The Basil 'Vehicles for Vets' has started! WYRK and Basil Family Dealerships are partnering up to give one Western New York veteran or active service member a NEW CAR!
The final giveaway will be on August 14th at the Erie County Fair, also Veterans Day at the Fair, which means free admission to all those who are serving and have served!
There will be nine finalists total, and they can win a new car or $21,000 in Basil bucks towards the purchase of a vehicle. We are still taking nominations for the nine finalists! So if there is a deserving veteran in YOUR life, nominate them now!
Jason Rafferty – Coast Guard is this week's Vehicles for Vets nominee and he was submitted by Misti Rafferty:
Story: Jason serves in the USCG, at Station Niagara in Youngstown. He's been in WNY since 2014. When he first arrived here, he was stationed at CG ANT Buffalo. Jason is a MK2 (Machinery Technician) and a devoted Father and Husband. Jason has served for 8 yrs in the Coast Guard on cutters and land units in Maine, New York, and New Jersey. As luck would have it, each time he tried to settle at a unit, things changed and he gets shuffled around. He currently lives in Angola, NY- which was only a 30 minute commute to Buffalo. Since he's been moved to Station Niagara in Youngstown, he now commutes over an hour. His car has taken quite the wear and tear over the years with long commutes. Jason is currently involved with search and rescue cases, community education, and keeping our waterways safe. Jason is incredibly humble, and does not know he's being nominated. He never takes credit for the accomplishments he has made, and is a very quiet guy. He would be absolutely shocked and honored if he was picked.
