Hours after blustering through a disastrous, headline-making New Year's Eve performance, Mariah Carey offered fans some levity in the form of a tweet. "Sh---t happens," she wrote, in a humanizing moment, taking the surprising snafu in stride. But according to a recent interview, the "Always Be My Baby" singer wasn't nearly as cool-headed while the actual production was going down.

When asked how she feels about the performance, now that she's had ample time to reflect on the experience, Carey was measured but honest in her response.

"All I can say is Dick Clark was an incredible person and I was lucky enough to work with him when I first started in the music business," she said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "I’m of the opinion that Dick Clark would not have let an artist go through that and he would have been as mortified as I was in real time."

While the performance was undoubtedly embarrassing, Carey maintains it won't stop her from playing live events in the future.

"It’s not going to stop me from doing a live event in the future," she said. "But it will make me less trusting of using anyone outside of my own team."

Carey also noted her fans have been supportive of her since the fiasco.

"My true fans have been so supportive and I am so appreciative of them and everybody in the media that came out to support me after the fact," she said, "because it really was an incredible holiday season that turned into a horrible New Year’s Eve."
