The dig produced over 2,000 fossils that were dug up by nearly1000 people. The fossils went through a certification process and after deeming the amount, officials ith the Guinness Book of world record declared Penn Dixie's fossil dig the "World's Largest Fossil Dig"

Penn Dixie Fossil Park and Nature Reserve had to adhere to strict guidelines to make sure they could be in contention for the world record. 905 people were part of the big dig and each person had to submit two to three fossils each that were tested by Guinness officials.

Also on the day of the dig, each person had to dig in a certain area of the park so officials could observe that each fossil presented was actually found during the dig's time frame.

Each person that was part of the dig can now also get their own Guinness Book of World Records certificate as well. If you were part of the dig you can buy your certificate on the Penn Dixie Fossil Park and Nature Reserve website HERE.

Penn Dixie Fossil Park and Nature Reserve also posted a video of the record-breaking dig on their website. You can check out the video down below.

If you want to try digging for a fossil for yourself, Penn Dixie Fossil Park and Nature Reserve is located at 4050 North Street in Blasdell. They are open daily from 9 am until 4 pm. You can get more information HERE.
