We now know the date for the first edition of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.  Long time Late Night host David Letterman announced in 2014 that he'll retire in 2015 and soon after that, Colbert was tapped as his replacement.

PerezHilton.com says that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will officially begin on September 8th 2015. Nina Tassler, CBS entertainment president, excitedly announced the news on Monday, January 12th, 2015 during the Television Critics Association’s press tour:

He’s brought almost his whole creative team from ‘The Colbert Report’ with him. He will have music on the show. He’s said, repeatedly, that ‘I have to be as entertaining as my guests,’ so he will certainly have guests on his show. Whether he’s going to start with a monologue, he’s working on that right now. But clearly, he knows that he is introducing himself, the real Stephen Colbert, to this audience. And he’s really putting a lot of attention into making sure the show is still topical, is still relevant, is still dealing with current events.

So 'Late Night' television fans, you can expect the great entertainment that David Letterman brought us to continue starting this Fall, and hopefully for many, many years to come.
