The Buffalo Bills have been one of the best teams in the NFL over the past two seasons because of the homegrown talent that is on the roster.

General manager Brandon Beane and head coach Sean McDermott have drafted extremely well over the past five years and have brought in the likes of Josh Allen, Taron Johnson, Ed Oliver, Siran Neal, Dion Dawkins, Matt Milano, Tre'Davious White, Tremaine Edmunds, Dawson Knox and Gabriel Davis.

Beane was not there for a few players, as he was hired after the 2017 NFL Draft, but it's clear that he has been arguably the best drafting GM in the NFL since then.

Another player who has the makings to be a gem of a find for the Bills is fifth round rookie, Khalil Shakir.

Shakir played college football at Boise State. The reasons he fell in the draft were due to size and lack of explosiveness, but Shakir has proved at camp and the first preseason game, that stuff will not matter for his production at the next level.

Shakir's hands and awareness are his strongest attributes and he proved that at practice on Tuesday.

Shakir routinely made acrobatic catches at Boise State and his first preseason game was extremely impressive. The Bills played Shakir into the third quarter against the Colts and he had nearly 100 receiving yards.

Assuming Gabe Davis takes that next step in 2022, I think Shakir will be the primary slot receiver by 2024; and he can also play outside, which makes him extremely valuable, given his punt return ability as well.
