Yesterday many people across the country were unfamiliar with the name Kathy Hochul. Today she is the Congresswoman elect from New York's 26th congressional district, beating Jane Corwin, Jack Davis and Ian Murphy.

She is also one of the most "googled" names in America.

We remember Kathy Hochul as Erie County clerk, previous to that a deputy county clerk, a member of the Hamburg town board, a practicing attorney and a legislative aide.

Wikipedia lists her political positions as preserving Medicare and opposing a privatized voucher payment system; raising taxes on those making more than $500,000 per year; opposing free trade and developing alternative energy sources.

Hochul and her husband William, who serves as the United States Attorney for Western New York reside in Hamburg, with their two children.
