More Jif Peanut Butter Items Recalled Across New York

What started with a recall of certain Jif Peanut Butter jars on May 20th has turned into a massive recall affecting thousands of products and consumers across New York and the country.

J.M. Smucker Company which makes Jif Peanut butter issued a recall for certain peanut butter after getting reports of people getting sick from Salmonella. According to the CDC at least 16 people from 12 states have been infected, with two hospitalized. Five out of five people who were sickened reported eating peanut butter and four of the five reported eating Jif before becoming ill according to reports from the CDC.

On top of jars of peanut butter being recalled, thousands of products that use the peanut butter and have it in a package are now also being recalled.

That includes Fresh Del Monte has recalled fresh-cut fruit and vegetable products containing ready-to-eat Jif peanut butter cups, 50,000 individually wrapped Prairie City Bakery Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Ooey Gooey Butter Cake containing recalled Jif peanut butter, and peanut butter cup ice cream made by Baltimore, Maryland-based Taharka Brothers Ice Cream and distributed between March 1, 2022, to May 28, 2022.

Even the peanut butter ice cream at Disney World has been recalled due to using Jif peanut butter.

Also being recalled are Rich's chocolate peanut butter cups sold at nearly 200 candy and ice cream shops nationwide between November 11, 2021, and January 23, 2022, and Country Fresh is recalling an array of fresh-cut fruit snack trays and fruit snack cups containing the recalled Jif peanut butter and sold under the Wegmans brand.

Overall the cost of the recall will cost the company nearly $125 million dollars.
