Buffalo Sabres Trade Rumors Are Heating Up

The Buffalo Sabres have been playing better in the last few games, as they continue to fight for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Buffalo currently sits one point out of the final wild card spot (Pittsburgh Penguins), but they also have five games in hand on the New York Islanders, with three points back of the Islanders.

The Sabres control their playoff destiny and general manager Kevyn Adams might want to add to the roster, to ensure the Sabres break their 11-year playoff drought this season.

Star forward Alex Tuch was injured late in the win over the Florida Panthers. He's listed as 'week-to-week.' which might sway Adams to make a move for a forward by Friday afternoon's trade deadline. The Sabres also need another veteran defenseman, which seems the most likely situation. Maybe a goaltender too; although that may be a short-term situation (through next season at the most).

According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Sabres are likely not making a huge splash move, but are one of the teams "lurking" and awaiting to get a player they want on a discount.

Adams has said in the past that he will not sacrifice the long-term plan of building a winner for years to come, just to get a short-term player. Buffalo has the salary cap space and assets to make a trade happen, but they want to do what's right.

The New Jersey Devils acquired San Jose Sharks star winger Timo Meier on Sunday, which is a name that Sabres fans may have thought they would be after.

Ottawa Senators goaltender Cam Talbot is likely to be traded at the deadline, according to Andy Strickland, with the Sabres one of the teams in on Talbot.

We'll have to wait and see what happens by Friday at 3 pm. If the Sabres are looking for a discount, then it's safe to assume they will hold off until Friday afternoon to make a potential trade.
