The Buffalo Sabres have played two outdoor games in their history. The first was the very first Winter Classic, which was played on January 1st, 2008 against the Pittsburgh Penguins at then, Ralph Wilson Stadium. The second was on January 1st, 2018 when the Sabres played at Citi Field against the New York Rangers.

Those were both Winter Classic Games, though. The Sabres will play in another outdoor game during the 2021-2022 season, but this time it will be in a Heritage Classic game.

The Sabres will play against the Toronto Maple Leafs on March 13th, 2022 in Hamilton at 3 pm. It's the 2022 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic game. The game will technically be a home game for the Sabres,m but will be played at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Ontario.

The Sabres will be the first American-based team to play in the Heritage Classic, which usually features two Canadian-based teams.

The game has long been rumoured to be played but it became official on Thursday morning.

This will be the third outdoor game of this upcoming NHL season. The St. Louis Blues and Minnesota Wild will play in the Winter Classic on January 1st, 2022 and the Tampa Bay Lightning and Nashville Predators will play in the NHL Stadium Series on February 26th, 2022.

The question remains, however, what will happen with the border? Will the border be back to normal by March of 2022?

It will be cool to see the Sabres play Toronto in an outdoor game, and even cooler that the Sabres will be the first American-based team to play in the NHL Heritage Classic.
