Many people have been trying to help out those community members in need since the tragedy on May 14, 2022; unfortunately, there are some people who have tried to take advantage of the community kindness by creating a fake charity that poses as something familiar to Buffalo, New York.

The Buffalo Community Fridge is one of the many food pantries of Western New York, located at 257 East Ferry Street, Buffalo, NY, 14208.

A Facebook post, verified from Buffalo Community Fridge, asked for grocery donations, nonperishables, and volunteers. However, any monetary donations have been directed to nonprofit and community organizations like “Black Love Resists In the Rust, FeedMore WNY, Feed Buffalo, VOICE Buffalo, Colored Girls Bike Too, Rooted In Love, Inc.

One thing to note is that the Buffalo Community Fridge is no longer accepting monetary donations themselves.

They shared a post on Instagram, stating “We are no longer accepting monetary donations.”

Unfortunately, someone has replicated this charity and is attempting to accept monetary donations.

There is a fake Venmo account that is impersonating the Buffalo Community Fridge with the username @bflocommunityfridge- and other variations of the name.
If you want to actually donate to help out the Buffalo Community Fridge, you can find out ways to volunteer and the food donations they are in need of on their Facebook page here.
