If you're a skier or a snowboarder, this is some of the best news you could hear.  Holiday Valley will be making snow this week.

It's the most wonderful time of the year when we start to bring out the boots and gloves and get the skis tuned up to hit the slopes.  While they aren't open yet, Holiday Valley is hoping to get a bit of a base on their hills this week as they prepare for the 2020-2021 season.

According to WIVB, the point of firing up the equipment this week is to not only test it to make sure it's all working correctly, but to stockpile some snow to use as we get closer to the season.  The temps are supposed to increase as we get closer to Thursday.  So they aren't expecting that they'll be able to make enough to open.

They hope to open on November 27th if the weather cooperates.  But that's been iffy lately.

The past couple years have been sketchy for ski resorts.  It's not that we haven't gotten snow.  We have definitely gotten snow, but in many cases, we get a storm surge that is followed closely by a warming period for a couple days.  So it's hard to keep a nice surface to ski on.

It's been years since I've been skiing.  I used to ski and snowboard.   I even worked at Kissing Bridge in Glenwood for a couple years.  But now that my kids are older, I'd love to get them out on the slopes with me.  It would be a perfect socially distant sport to keep the blood flowing.  Maybe this is the year!
