We are knee deep into fall, which means the best holiday is right around the corner.  No, not Columbus Day.  Do you even get off of work for that?  I'm talking about Halloween, and although you don't get off work for that one either, it does reward you with candy. Good luck getting a mini Twix from Columbus.

This is my favorite time of year, when the weather cools down, the leaves start to change, and the costume planning begins. To be honest, my costume/Halloween planning begins much earlier in the year similar to how Christmas starts in August in most stores.

I don't mess around when it comes to getting the costume right. I'm not one to skimp on the details, what would be the point of that?!  When it comes to Halloween, GO BIG or go home. If you're not going to go big, then stay home and give out candy.  Don't just put the candy dish out on the porch either.  If that was your plan then just turn your lights off, reevaluate your life, and go to bed.

The best part of Halloween is that you do not even have to be that creative to pull off a solid costume. The costume stores give you just about everything you need to make your Superhero more super, your Ghoul more ghastly, and your zombie more dead.

I take it to the next level and go half store, half homemade.  It's a slippery slope, because if you go all one way you risk a cheesy looking costume. I take the parts I like so I don't have to do too much heavy lifting, and create the stuff where the stores have missed the mark.

Do I take it too far? Absolutely. Should you? YES. You wouldn't still be reading this if you didn't want to take it too far.  This is the one day of the year where you can let your freak flag fly and have an excuse that it's just a costume. Now some people continue it the other 364 days – and more power to them. Unfortunately being a vampire conflicts with my day job.

I took my first trip to the costume store to see what this year had on tap.  There were a lot of the classics (zombie, Ninja Turtle, sexy cab driver), along with some new arrivals (Dead Pool, Kylo-Ren, and every creepy clown you can think of).  The Halloween decor was also in full effect.  They have every kind of terrifying thing you will need to scare the innocence out of the kids in your neighborhood. Make them earn that candy bar! Hopefully these pictures get you in the Halloween mood.
