Predicting the forecast for the entire winter season isn't an exact science, but what many meteorologists agree on is La Nina, which is expected to greatly impact the winter season in North America.

According to WGRZ, AccuWeather Lead Long-Range Forecaster Paul Pastelok discussed what the winter season should hold for the the U.S., including the Great Lakes region, which includes Western New York.

While parts of the winter could be mild (particularly January and February), there is the potential for stormy weather during the holiday periods.

According to AccuWeather's long-range prediction, a northern storm track could bring quick-moving storms through the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley regions, which would result in frequent lake-effect snow for these areas during the holiday periods.

The outlook for our region is above-average snowfall, with above-average temperatures for the duration of winter.

I'm always of the opinion if we're going to get snow, get it between Thanksgiving and Christmas, to make it feel like the holiday season! After the holidays, I really don't care for any more snow to fall in Buffalo...
