Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz officially declared September 24th, Goo Goo Doll day here in Western New York.

The county awarded the honor to the Goo Goo Dolls for everything they have done in the world of music but also for what they have done giving back to local musicians in the 716.

The Goo Goo Dolls first got together back in 1986 and worked playing local and national gigs before they had their major hit "Name" in 1995. It would be three years later that their biggest song would come out. "Iris" was written for the soundtrack for the movie "City of Angels" and was included on the Goo Goo Dolls' 1998 album Dizzy Up The Girl. "Iris" would go on to the top of the charts all across the world and become one of the best-selling songs in Ireland.
