American Alicia Sacramone became the most-decorated US woman's gymnast Tuesday evening when the American team won the World Championships in Tokyo. At the time, Sacramone was thousands of miles away from Japan, in fact, back in the United States. Confused? Well, it's really quite simple.

Sacramone tore her Achillies tendon last Thursday while preparing for the Tokyo event, and underwent surgery Monday to repair the injury. But, as part of the US squad, she was still eligible for any team medals earned at the championships. The American team, using Sacramone's injury as motivation, took home the gold medal last night, giving Sacramone a record tenth medal in international competition.

No word yet as to when Sacramone will resume competing.
