It looks like New Yorkers might be getting some federal help with the rising costs of gas prices across the state.

On June 1st, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced the state would offer a special "Gas Tax Holiday" to help ease the cost of a gallon of gas.

Now it looks like another "Gas Tax Holiday" will be coming to New York, this time on the federal level.

According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of gas in New York is around $5.00. That is up 7 cents from last month. The "Gas Tax Holiday" on the state level was expected to help curb the rising cost of a gallon of gas.

In New York, the average price of a gallon of gas is $1.87 more per gallon than it was last year.

President Biden announced that he is expected to make a decision on a nation "Gas Tax Holiday" by the end of the week. If he does issue the "Gas Tax Holiday" on a national level, experts expect that the average price for a gallon of gas could drop by nearly 15 cents per gallon.

The current national average for a gallon of gas is $4.96.

Some counties in New York like Erie and Niagara county also issued special county-wide "Gas Tax Holiday" to help keep the cost of a gallon of gas down as well.

The average price of a gallon of gas in Western New York is around $4.85, which is the cheapest in New York.

The current New York State "Gas Tax Holiday" is in place until February 2023.
