Art galleries and museums may be closed, but a new public art initiative from Western New York artists is bringing art to the community, in a safe, socially-distant environment -- outside.

The show is called "PROXIMITY: In Search of Signs of Life & Art," which is being called "an intimate walk/drive-by experience."

22 Buffalo-area artists are participating, using the exterior of their homes and front lawns as spaces for these art installations.

"I’ve created an installation where you can walk in and around, and I hope people do come on my lawn and do that," participating artist Kari Achatz told WGRZ. "Then if you come at night you’ll see a beautiful, color changing light show with lots of shattered shadows and light."

Presented by Resource:Art NY, the exhibit runs from now through May 17 (or as long as the exhibits hold up in the outside weather). You can find a list of participating artists and addresses here.

Artist Casey Milbrand is exhibiting a piece he started working on before the coronavirus outbreak, called "City HEART" and is made from interconnected bicycle wheels.

The project was inspired by people in Italy, who played music and sang on their balconies during quarantine. "Art connects people," reads a statement from the Resource:Art NY website.
