Saturday's shooting in Buffalo has affected scores of residents who regularly shop at the Tops Market on Jefferson Avenue.  The market is located in what is known as a "food desert".  A Food desert is an area in which it is difficult to buy affordable or good-quality fresh food.  With the Tops Market temporarily closed, many area residents have lost the use of the lone supermarket that was within walking distance for many Buffalonians.

The State's partnership with Lyft and Uber will allow for riders in the zip codes 14208 and 14209 to receive a ride to, and from two other local grocery stores:  the Tops Market at 425 Niagara Street in Buffalo, and the Price Rite located at 250 Elmwood Avenue in Buffalo.

In order to take advantage of the offer, users can download the Lyft (CLICK HERE) app, and use the code 'BuffaloLyftUp' for a free ride up to $25.  Users can download the Uber (CLICK HERE) app, and use the code 'SHOPBUF' to get $20 off a ride to either of the two stores listed above.  Each user can use these codes up to a maximum of eight times.

New York state also announced that bus fares will be suspended on four routes in the area that were directly affected by the shooting through the end of May.
