A woman from Jamestown used what for most of us would be a devastating life event to help her discover her passion and bounce back.

For many of us, when life deals a dreadful blow, we immerse ourselves in something else.  Sometimes the path can be destructive, but other times, it can be fullfilling.

Kimberly Carlson told NEWS 4 (WIVB-TV) the process began back in 2016 when she lost her son to a drug overdose.

It was a time of sadness and reflection, and also a time for Kimberly to reassess what she wanted to do with her life.

That led to her opening the flower shop called “Pea Pod & Juniper” in Lakewood, N.Y.

“I really was at a point that I needed to take things back to a basic idea of what I wanted my life to look like.”

But for Kimberly, it’s more than just a flower shop, and it's more than just something she wanted to do for herself. Kimberly wants Pea Pod & Juniper to be a place for community members to come in to, stroll around, relax and unwind.

Kimberly says she credits the inspiration for the shop's name from her granddaughters.

It looks like the Western New York Community has embraced Kimberly's efforts.
