Personally I don't like the word "fat"...I much prefer "stocky". Is being stocky any healthier? Probably not and of course losing weight and staying in shape can add years to your life, but there are times a little padding doesn't hurt.
Here are some positives about fat . . .

2. It keeps you warm.
3. It acts as a buffer and protects vital organs.
4. It stores T-cells, a type of white blood cell that helps fight off diseases.
5. It's where some key nutrients are stored.
