Fire crews were on the scene of a large recycling facility fire on Metcalfe and Clinton Streets in Buffalo.

Flames brought out around 8:00P.M., and fire officials said that the blaze was being fueled by trash, pallets, fiberglass and auto parts. No hazardous materials were involved, however several small explosions from sealed containers and/or tires could be heard.

Crews were able to contain the fire before it spread to a nearby chemical warehouse, but heavy black smoke could be seen for miles.

The HAZ-MAT team was on scene to monitor the air for any signs of dangerous fumes. Elevated levels of carbon monoxide were detected, but that was expected from such a large fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and crews will continue to monitor the piles of debris caused by the blaze.
