Coming up later this month FEMA (Federal Emergency Managment Agency) will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System on all cell phones.

The test will be conducted on September 20th at 2:18 pm. According to a press release from FEMA, the test will be conducted to "assess the operational readiness of the infrastructure for distribution of a national message and determine whether technological improvements are needed."

This will be the 4th nationwide test conducted by FEMA but the first using WEA Cell phone alert system. That means some but not all cell phones will also receive the test alert.

The alert will read “ THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.”
