Fan Attendance Was Embarrassingly Low For Sabres Game Last Night [PICS]

The Buffalo Sabres are one week into their 2021 preseason schedule and it's about what many Sabres fans expected -- growing pains.

The Sabres hosted the Columbus Blue Jackets at the KeyBank Center on Monday night and Buffalo lost 5-3.

Casey Mittelstadt scored two of the Sabres goals, while rookie J-J Peterka netted the other. The loss brings the Sabres preseason record to 1-3.

The biggest story from Monday night's game was the fan attendance...or lack thereof.

John Vogl of The Athletic tweeted out a photo of the attendance at KeyBank Center and granted, it is a preseason game on a Monday, but still, it was shockingly low.

The Sabres announced that over 6,300 tickets were sold for the Blue Jackets game but obviously, there is no way that is 6,300. It honestly looks more like a few hundred.

It's scary to think what a regular season game will look like. A part of me thinks because less fans want to go, who normally would, that means that fans who don't usually go to games will now. You also play teams like Toronto, Montreal and Pittsburgh, who always draw in opposing fans who buy tickets.

But this attendance or this preseason game is very telling of how fed up fans are with the franchise and the product that it has put out on the ice for years now. The Sabres used to have a season ticket cap and fans were on a waiting list -- back when the team was one of the best in the league in 2007; now, you can't give these tickets away.

The Sabres open their regular season schedule at KeyBank Center next Thursday against the Montreal Canadiens.
