If you haven't tapped on it to see what it's all about yet, here you go -- basically, Messenger Rooms are Facebook's answer to popular video conferencing software Zoom.

The free (and commonly-used) version of Zoom has some limitations, like how many people can be invited to one meeting, and how long the meetings can last.

"Whereas Zoom was originally targeted to business customers but picked up by consumers during the pandemic, Messenger Rooms is firmly aimed at consumers and meant for connecting with friends and family," CNET review.

With Messenger Rooms, CNET reports you can have up to 50 participants, there's no time limit for meetings, and you can even invite people who don't have a Facebook account.

"But you can still share a screen or schedule a meeting ahead of time, and see everyone in a grid view. You can also leave a room open to a certain group of people, or your whole friend list, so anyone can drop in at any time," CNET review

The feature was rolled out last week to Facebook users, so if you haven't seen it yet, be sure to be using an up-to-date version of Facebook.

The ability to create Rooms in Instagram was announced earlier today.
