The NFL's 2021 season is officially over, after the Los Angeles Rams defeated the Cincinnati Bengals, 23-20. It's the second straight season a team hosted the Super Bowl in their home stadium.

The Rams are a really good team. They have one of the best defenses in the NFL, with arguably the best player, regardless of position (defensive tackle, Aaron Donald), they have weapons on offense, and upgraded at quarterback last offseason with Matthew Stafford.

However, there are many fans, not just for the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs, that say the Bills and Chiefs are the two best teams in the NFL. It's hard to argue after watching that Super Bowl on Sunday, the conference championship games, and the game the Bills and Chiefs gave us in the AFC Divisional Round.

However, there are actual stats to back up that the Bills are still the best team in the NFL, despite losing 42-36 in the AFC Divisional Round to the Chiefs back on January 23rd.

ESPN released their final FPI (football power index), which is based off analytics -- determining who the best teams are in the NFL and giving them a final grade.

The Bills rank number one with a +8.6.

The Chiefs came in at third with a +6.2 and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers actually came in at number two, with a score of +8.3.

The Rams, who won the Super Bowl, came in at number four, while the Bengals are all the way at 13.

I think back to the 2006 Stanley Cup playoffs. Yes, I know, different sport (hockey), but the Buffalo Sabres were absolutely the best team left in that postseason, when they lost in a 7-game series to the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Sabres lost four of their top six defeseman by game 7 of that Eastern Conference Final, and still led the healthy Hurricanes after two periods.

The 8th seed Edmonton Oilers were waiting in the Stanley Cup Final. Buffalo would have won the cup had they gotten by Carolina.

You have to be a great team, but, you also need some breaks to go your way. That's just reality.
