The big news this past Wednesday for all of New York State, as Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that there would be a new mandate, limiting the number of people indoors at private residences to 10 people. That is unless there were already 10 people or more residing inside your home.

The goal was to limit the spread of the increasing cases in COVID-19, by stopping large parties or gatherings.

This new mandate comes just two weeks before Thanksgiving, a holiday where families get together at their homes.

According to WIVB, Erie County Sheriff Timothy Howard says he's "not interested" in enforcing Governor Cuomo's new mandate, limiting indoor Thanksgiving gatherings, according to a statement released.

“I have no plans to utilize my office’s resources or deputies to break up the great tradition of Thanksgiving dinner,” Sheriff Howard said.

“This national holiday has created longstanding family traditions that are at the heart of America, and these traditions should not be stopped or interrupted by Governor Cuomo’s mandates," added Howard.

The new mandate is for the entire state and isn't just for Thanksgiving, but that's not all the Governor announced on Wednesday.

There will also be 10 p.m. closures for all bars and restaurants with a liquor license and only curbside pickup for food after 10 p.m. Gyms must also be closed by 10 p.m. until further notice.
