Erie Co. Sheriff Office Looking For Info on Vehicle Involved in Hit-and-Run Driver in Grand Island

The Erie County Sheriff's Office is seeking information about a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run Wednesday night in Grand Island, in which a 14 year-old boy was hit. Here is the full statement from the Sheriff's Office:

Maroon Sedan Hit 14-year-old on His Bike from Behind

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports Deputies met with a father and son at the Grand Island Substation last night after the 14-year-old was struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle around 6:00 P.M. Wednesday.

The victim described how he moved over to the shoulder of Ransom Road after observing a vehicle approaching from behind. The victim was struck forcing him from the bike and to the ground. He also described his bicycle was equipped with flashing lights and they were operational at the time of the collision. The fourteen-year-old provided the Deputies a description of the vehicle and the color of the license plate but could not make out the numbers or letters.

Today, the Sheriff’s Office is searching for an older model maroon sedan with possible damage to the front right fender and with an orange license plate. The vehicle was last seen leaving the crash scene traveling westbound on Ransom Road then it turned right onto Stony Point Road traveling northbound.

The collision caused minor injuries to the victim’s leg and abdomen. He was treated at a local medical facility and released.

The vehicle believed to have been involved in the accident is identified as "an older model maroon sedan with possible damage to the front right fender and with an orange license plate." The statement notes, "the vehicle was last seen leaving the crash scene traveling westbound on Ransom Road then it turned right onto Stony Point Road traveling northbound."

According to a Facebook post purportedly authored by the victim's father, "If you own a dark red 4 door sedan and were driving down Ransom Rd. Around 630 pm tonight. You hit my son on his bike. Be a good human and turn yourself in to the Erie County Sheriff's Dept. We already made a report and they are looking for you. He got a good look and description of your car that he gave to the deputies. [Name of child redacted] kicked the side door because you were close enough to him. He fell off his bike and now has left abdominal pain and right lower leg pain from knee to ankle."
