According to WIVB, Maple Avenue Elementary School has shut down because of COVID-19.

The school is officially closed on Monday and will be until further notice because of a new confirmed case at the school, according to Superintendent Mark Laurrie.

It has not been made public whether the confirmed case was a student, teacher or staff member.

Laurrie says that some people may be getting a call in regards to contact tracing, as the school works with the Niagara County Department of Health. Those who get a call are urged to respond.

“I think that in an effort to be abundantly safe, it’s best to close Maple Avenue for in-person instruction for the foreseeable future, and I will update you every day starting tomorrow, which is Sept. 28," said Laurrie.

Even though it's only one confirmed case, the school is clearly approaching this cautiously and for the overall safety of the students and staff members.
