Does This Mean The Erie County Fair Can Operate at 100% Capacity?

The summer of 2021 is looking so much better than the summer of 2020. Events, such as fairs, festivals, and concerts are taking place in Western New York over the next three months, as more and more people are getting vaccinated.

Governor Andrew Cuomo made a big announcement on Monday. He announced the New York State Fair would operate at 100 percent capacity this August and September.

All buildings at the State Fair will be open as well and run for a record 18 days.

The announcement came on the heels of the state vaccination rate being 69.9 percent. Cuomo has said that most restrictions would be lifted at 70 percent vaccination and according to the CDC, 70 percent of New Yorkers have received at least one dose of the vaccine as of Monday afternoon.

But what does this mean for the Erie County Fair?

It's reasonable to assume the Erie County Fair can also operate at 100 percent capacity, since the New York State Fair will be doing so, and the state just reached its benchmark of 70 percent vaccinated -- which means most restrictions will end.

According to WKBW, however, a spokesperson with the Erie County Fair says no changes have been made as of yet and they will wait for further guidance from the state.

Back in May, the Erie County Fair announced that only 60,000 tickets would be sold each day the fair is held, with a max limit of 74,000 people (staff and vendors included). That's roughly 50 percent capacity of what is normally expected for the Erie County Fair.
