Governor Kathy Hochul issued a warning to New Yorkers to prepare for the dangerous heat. The high temperatures, mixed with moderate-to-high humidity will cause heat index values in the 90s and 100s. Today, the heatwave will threaten the New York City area, including Long Island and the lower Mid-Hudson areas. One Wednesday, July 20, the dangerous heat will cover most of the state bringing temperatures around 95 degrees and high humidity. On Thursday, downstate regions will experience heat index values above 100 degrees.

Gov. Hochul warns New Yorkers to take care during the heatwave,

The next several days will bring extreme heat throughout the state with dangerous heat indices potentially reaching into the 100s. I am urging all New Yorkers to prepare for heat and humidity this week and to keep a close eye on the weather over the next couple of days. As New Yorkers, we take care of one another, so please don't forget to check on neighbors, especially seniors, those with young children, and people with disabilities.
